Broker Spotlight – Marcella Tichelaar

By Moravia Yachting

As part of a series of conversations with the Moravia brokerage team, Marcella Tichelaar discusses her meticulous approach to organising tailored yacht charters.

Charter Broker Marcella Tichelaar first discovered the yachting industry when she moved to the South of France in 2014. Having studied a master’s degree in Luxury Management at the University of Monaco, Marcella always had a strong appreciation for high-end brands and was intrigued by the opulence and splendour of the superyacht industry in and around Port Hercule.

Following an internship at Sabrina Monte Carlo, where she had the opportunity to dress many exquisite superyacht interiors, Marcella joined Hill Robinson as marketing assistant in 2019 to pursue a full-time career in the superyacht industry. “I loved working in yachting because it’s the ultimate form of luxury,” she explains. “And gaining experience within the yacht management sector was very valuable because it meant that I was exposed to all aspects of ownership and operations.”

Quickly becoming a valued member of the team and showing a particular aptitude for client relations, Marcella moved to Moravia Yachting as Charter Retail Coordinator. Here, she assisted the team with the finer details pertaining to charter brokerage. It was in this role that Marcella realised her passion for yacht charter. “I’m very curious and I love discovering everything about a charter, from the yachts and the destinations to keeping up to date with the applicable VAT and negotiating on behalf of the client,” she reflects. “This business is about constantly solving problems while the client has a seamless experience before and during the charter.”

Proving her meticulous capabilities in assessing client needs and organising tailored charter experiences, Marcella progressed to the well-earned position of Charter Broker last year. She is relishing dealing with her own clients while working with the more experienced brokers amongst the Moravia Yachting team. “It’s very useful to have people to bounce ideas off as two opinions are always better than one,” she adds. “You never stop learning because the charter market is changing all the time, which makes the job really interesting.”

Having studied and lived in and around Monaco for many years, Marcella has built an expansive network in the local luxury sector, which gives her an edge in her role as charter broker. Whether her clients want to go to the best hotel, restaurant, or beach club, she has the connections to gain access to the most exclusive venues. As such, charters along the south of France are Marcella’s particular speciality.

Looking to the future, Marcella is grateful to be carving her career as part of the team at Moravia Yachting. “The company continues to provide opportunities to those who ask for it,” she concludes. “Having the support of the Hill Robinson Group also means there is an infinite pool of expertise that we can call upon.”
