Broker Spotlight – Roy Posthuma
As part of a series of conversations with the Moravia brokerage team, Charter and Sales Broker Roy Posthuma explains how he secures the best experiences for his clients.
Roy Posthuma joined the yachting industry eight years ago, starting with a London-based brokerage firm as part of a university internship programme. Roy went on to join that company as a full time charter broker, and was its first employee. This is where Roy developed an in-depth knowledge of the yachts available on the charter market; without access to YACHTFOLIO, he had to phone up each yacht’s CA every time there was a charter enquiry. This comes in particularly useful when recommending suitable yachts to clients.
In 2021, Roy moved to Moravia Yachting alongside his wife and fellow broker Darina Posthuma. “I was the most experienced broker at my previous company, but I felt I had so much more to learn,” he explains. “Moravia Yachting has a wealth of experience in house and, with its connection to Hill Robinson, you can learn more from your colleagues about different aspects of the industry.”

With a strong track record, Roy has closed over 100 charters all over the world, resulting in many happy and repeat clients, and he completed his first yacht sale last year. Roy believes that it’s his focus on responsiveness that has helped him succeed in the brokerage sector. “I think one of the yachting industry’s biggest weaknesses is its inefficiency,” he asserts. “We work differently to do everything for our clients as soon as possible – the world is so connected now, there’s no need to wait for anything.” It is this proactive approach that sees Roy securing the best experiences possible for his clients.
Roy will often travel and experience destinations first hand, allowing him to ensure that all his clients will have the holiday they dream of. With its relatively calm waters and beautiful coastline, his favourite destination is Croatia, which he regularly recommends to clients. “The best thing about Croatia is that there are so many idyllic, tiny islands close to each other – sometimes with just one dock and one restaurant on the island – that can only be reached by boat,” he describes.

Based in La Spezia, Roy is in the heart of the Italian yachting building sector and has built strong relationships with the local shipyards. Being so close to the south of France, he also regularly travels to meet with clients there.
